HSE and Saints Cyril and Methodius Institute Launch First Master’s Programme in Religious Diplomacy
On May 28, 2026, an open day will be held for the Master’s programme ‘Religious Diplomacy in a Multipolar World,’ for which enrolment will open for the first time during the forthcoming admissions campaign. The programme will be delivered on-site by the HSE Higher School of Law and Administration in partnership with the Saints Cyril and Methodius Institute for Postgraduate Studies. The programme offers 15 state-funded openings, five fee-paying positions, and two tuition-fee slots for international students.

Living with Volcanoes and Tsunamis
It is not easy to get university graduates and students interested in living and working in Kamchatka, a remote region with harsh natural conditions and an extreme climate. Mirror Laboratories, a joint project of the HSE Institute of Education and Kamchatka State University (KamGU), encourages the development of ‘explorer’ competencies and the modernisation of the region’s education system. ‘I Left Feeling Really Inspired’: HSE International Students Shine at VI International Conference in Tomsk
On April 19–24 April 2026, Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) hosted the VI International Scientific and Practical Conference ‘Scientific Initiative of International Students and Postgraduates.’ Seven students from the HSE International Preparatory Year took part in the event: four attended in person, and three joined online. The delegation was accompanied by two lecturers—Zoya Maslennikova and Maria Grabovskaya.

HSE Students Among Winners of Yandex High-Tech Startup Accelerator
Yandex has announced the results of its Yandex AI Startup Lab accelerator, whose final round featured 12 IT projects. Over the course of three months, their creators—students and young entrepreneurs—worked alongside the company’s experts to develop their products. Four startups in digital marketing, medicine, and robotics were named the best, with their teams receiving cash prizes and cloud resource grants. Among them was Gradius, a startup founded by students from HSE University.

HSE and Peking University Discuss Prospects for Expanding Cooperation
In Moscow, HSE University’s leadership met with a delegation from Peking University headed by its President, Gong Qihuang. During the meeting, the parties agreed to strengthen partnership between the two universities within the framework of the Cross Years of Russian–Chinese Cooperation in Education (2026–2027).

HSE Students Win Gold Medals at International Mathematics Olympiad in Turkmenistan
The VI Open Mathematical Olympiad for University Students (OMOUS-2026) was held in Ashgabat, bringing together teams from Russia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, the Netherlands, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran, and the UAE. Around 600 students took part in the competition.

New Master’s Programme from HSE University and SIBUR Bridges Fundamental Science and High‑Tech Industry
HSE University and SIBUR have opened admissions for the joint track ‘New Polymer Materials and Petrochemistry’ within the Master’s programme in Chemistry of Molecular Systems and Materials. The programme will prepare specialists with a solid scientific foundation and the project management skills required in the petrochemical industry. Studies will begin in September 2026 at the HSE Faculty of Chemistry.

A Trap for the Advanced Student: How to Break the Habit of Blindly Trusting Neural Networks
Andrei Ternikov, Associate Professor at the St Petersburg School of Economics and Management at HSE University–St Petersburg, has developed a method for conducting online exams that significantly limits students’ ability to use ChatGPT and other AI models to obtain correct answers. Andrei Ternikov spoke to the HSE News Service about his approach—which won the HSE University Autumn Educational Innovation Competition, received an Alfa Future grant, and was presented at an international conference in Japan.
